Today we are chopping and piling firewood

It was a warm, sloppy day, but at least the sun was shining!

Hubby and I were out chopping wood most of the day. He was chopping and I was throwing them with everything I had, to try to get the chunks to the top of my big pile. I think I got carried away with the height of my pile. My man thought it was getting pretty huge, but it ‘grew’ on him, and he just smiled.

A neighbor couple I know make a circle of wood piled as high as they can , but leave room in one end for a ‘door way’. The man works in the middle with his axe, chopping the big blocks, and his wife works the ‘circle’ of cut wood.

We started with the blocks sitting mostly upright, but at a slight angle, so that there would be a very small surface sitting on the ground to rot or to get frozen into the ground in the winter. On top of that there is a wall all the way around, Last year the wall was about 3 feet high, but as you can see it was fun to make it about 8 feet!

After that I could just throw everything on top and in the middle.

What do you think? Know any other ways to make a stylish wood pile?

I was wondering if ‘chuck’ was the right word for what I was doing, and now I know. You’re so helpful!
