The last two years I had poor flowers. I began to think it was the soil I was using. It was the cheapest thing I could find.
This year I experimented and used 1/2 of that rich (in dollars) Miracle Grow dirt. I mixed the two (cheap and expensive) 50-50. What a difference! The plants were at least half again as bountiful as before.
I was suspicious at first because the cheap stuff had far less ‘fibre’ (ground-up wood?) in it and was a darker, richer colour. I realized after a while that the darker colour was from an increased water content which added to the weight I was paying for! Huh!!
It wasn’t like I didn’t use good rooting fertilizer all along. I wonder if the cheap stuff might be sour or something. I know someone who bought a whole truck load of peat to make a garden and nothing grew because it was from a bog and sour as can be!
The tomatoes are just as succesful.
