This had to be planned from the beginning. Our chimney is high and large. That means a lot of weight that needs to be supported at the ground level.
I wanted to have a wood stove downstairs as well as a wood cook stove upstairs so that meant it would need two separate flues inside.
We used insulated brick on the initial construction and then plastered on the rocks. Historically real field stone have been used to make chimneys, but lately there is a light-weight pretend version available that looks very realistic. The light ones are easier to install and even have corners cut out of them but of course cost a lot more than hand-picked ones.
